MANIC-DEPRESSIVE ILLNESS

Abstract
This is a brief review of Manic-Depressive Illness. Main purpose of the review is to give some current status of the understandings of the illness to the trainees in the field of psychiatry as well as to the physicians other than psychiatrists in this country. The review covers some historical backgrounds, psychopathology including current status of research on the etiology of the illness and some recent trends of the treatment of this particular illness.
In psychopathology, more emphass were placed upon the thoughts among the scholars in British and German speaking countries including the thoughts Eliot slater and of Kurt Schneider, for the thoughts in these areas have less been informed to the students in this country compared to those from North American Continents.
The importance of life style based on the pattern and the trait of personality in prepsychotic life which is to be regarded as the cardinal point when making differential diagnosis was also emphasized.
